The UAE residency visas will be issued through Emirates ID cards rather than paper stickers on passports from 11th April 2022, as per the circular issued by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICA).
The residency visa stamp is a sticker applied on the holder’s passport once they complete the medical and residency procedures. That stamp has information such as the sponsor details, date of issue and expiry date, and residency file number. The previous form of stickers will only be available online as a reference for residents.
The airlines can now verify the residency status through the passport number and Emirates ID., their residency information. Officials of the UAE emphasized that this change is expected to reduce steps associated with issuing and renewing residence.
